About Centerfield
On most Thursday nights at midnight you can find me awake in bed, going over the talk I just gave, replaying all the times when people laughed at the right places, or else mourning the fact that I felt like a fool and should have prepared more. On this particular night however I was at an Eat ‘n Park with my friend Rick James. We were talking about all the resources we wished we had on campus, but didn’t.
A couple of years earlier this same sort of conversation led us into producing Cru.Comm, a comprehensive Bible study curriculum for campus ministry. This time we were daydreaming about creating a field-based entity within the US Campus Ministry that would try to make some of the stuff we need and assume others might need as well. That conversation led to the creation of Centerfield Productions.
Centerfield is an adjunct team of staff who have other full time jobs within Crusade, mostly on the field. Roger Hershey, who knows just about all there is to know about ministry is also a major contributor, as are Sarah Gale, Tom Hudzina, Director at West Chester University, and Randy Newman, CLM staff and author of Questioning Evangelism.
Pretty much all we ever do is make the stuff that we wish we had, and if it seems to work we make it available for other campuses to try. On this site you’ll find three broad categories of content. Ideas are really just that: intriguing thoughts we are playing around with, wondering about, and which we think are worthy of broader discussion. Strategies are a little more developed. They are ideas we have turned into workable systems to solve a particular problem we are facing on campus. Tools are the most developed and at present there are three: Cru.Comm, our Bible study curriculum, The Compass, a tool for disciplers, and a newly added version of The Compass for Churches.
We hope these resources will help you be more effective at turning lost students into Christ-centered laborers at your campuses. Please use the comments feature to discuss, expand, and improve upon these ideas and strategies. And if you have ideas or strategies of your own you’d like us to consider publishing please get in touch with us. We hope this site will accelerate the spread of useful resources for the field, from the field, to the glory of God.
